Hello, I'm Diane Sidey, welcome to Sidey’s Pilates. I have worked in the fitness industry since 1995 and i have been teaching Pilates classes in Edinburgh since 2002. I am a fully qualified Pilates Level 3 instructor and I am insured with appropriate Public Liability insurance. I am the sole proprietor of Sidey’s Pilates and I operate all the classes personally. I am a highly experienced and dedicated Pilates teacher. Each year I teach around 630 hours of Pilates. The quality and fun of the learning is surpassed by none. You can be sure to train with the best.

My classes are fun & friendly where you are sure to meet new friends and enjoy the fabulous results that Pilates provides. I have members of all shapes & sizes, all fitness levels and both male & female, ages ranging from 20 to 80 years old! At each class I teach a structured one hour session where each person works at their own individual pace and level and I provide mats and exercise equipment. In the winter months I use candles and “mood lighting” which helps relax my members. Many people join after being recommended to do Pilates by their physiotherapists.

An Introduction To Pilates

Pilates is not just a series of exercises, it is a way of life. It will not only change the way you look, but how you think and feel, increasing your understanding of your body, the most precious gift we have.

Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to other fitness techniques. Targeting the deep postural muscles, Pilates works by building strength from the inside out, re-balancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. It helps to reshape your body, which will become longer, leaner and more toned. It will also improve your posture, achieving the perfect balance between strength and flexibility, and it is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension. It's slow, controlled approach means that it gives much longer-term results - and it is especially recommended by medical specialists for those with back problems. In mat work classes particular attention is paid to strengthening the core abdominal and back muscles. This is the ultimate exercise for anyone who wants a toned, strong and aligned body. Pilates is subtle, gentle on the body and not too strenuous. It is about movement and how to use muscles in a way that work for you, in harmony with the breath.

There are 8 principles of the Pilates Technique combining eastern and western philosophies teaching you to breath with movement whilst incorporating control, centering, precision and isolation within a flowing movement.
